Much attention in the church-world has been given lately to the current phenomenon of the “Blood Moons.” The phrase speaks of the red appearance of the moon during a total eclipse (the same phenomenon that makes sunsets appear red). Four consecutive total eclipses in a series is known as a “tetrad.”
The interesting thing is that the current Blood Moon tetrad falls on Jewish holidays. According to multiple sources, this phenomenon has occurred just ten times since AD 1 and only three times since AD 1492. These same sources note that major events affecting the Jewish people have occurred in close proximity with the last three tetrads:
- The Spanish Inquisition (1492) just before the tetrad of 1493-1494
- The Rebirth of the Nation of Israel (1948) just before the tetrad of 1949-1950
- The City of Jerusalem Reunited during the tetrad of 1967-1968
The dates of the current Blood Moon tetrad and corresponding Jewish holidays are:
- April 15, 2014 – Passover
- October 8, 2014 – Feast of Tabernacles
- April 4, 2015 – Passover
- September 28, 2015 – Feast of Tabernacles
The teaching of the Blood Moons states that when four consecutive blood moons fall on Jewish feast days, a major event affecting the Jewish people will occur in close proximity to that time. If history repeats itself, something big is coming!
So what should be our response as Christians to the Blood Moons? Here are four directives that are based on the Bible:
First, maintain personal readiness for the Rapture of the Church (Matthew 24:44). Knowing what is coming should motivate us to godly living (2 Peter 3:11).
Second, commit to greater involvement in evangelism and missions (Matthew 24:14). Signs of the times are given not to cater to our curiosity but to motivate us to reach others for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:11).
Third, pray harder than ever for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6-7). Extremely difficult times are coming for the nation of Israel. Thankfully, that story will have a happy ending (Romans 11:26). More about this in the upcoming message on Daniel’s 70 Weeks on Wednesday night, July 1st, at RLA.
Fourth, resist the temptation to become enamored with the signs. End times signs are just that - signs! They are visible indicators of greater things coming. Learn from them, but don’t become captivated by them. When you see these last days signs do what Jesus said to do in Luke 21:28, “Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”
